Jónas Kristjánsson

This is an Icelandic name. The last name is a patronymic or matronymic, not a family name; this person is properly referred to by the given name Jónas.

Jónas Kristjánsson (born 1924) is an Icelandic scholar and novelist. He is a former longtime director of the Árni Magnússon Institute, from which he retired upon reaching the age limit on the position in 1994.[1] He is best known for his works on Icelandic sagas, laying emphasis on their literary nature and working on several stylistic and syntactic problems.[2][3][4] His novel, The Wide World, is set in Viking age North America. He is a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.[5]
